Healthy and Happy

Three sites, one shared goal: supporting the well-being of our people. KLINGER South Africa turns wellness into action.

At the end of January and beginning of February, something a little different took place across KLINGER South Africa. While work continued as normal in Cape Town, Honeydew, and Wadeville, the focus for a few hours shifted to something equally important – the well-being of the people who make our business possible.

KLINGER South Africa hosted Wellness Days across three of its sites, bringing health and well-being support directly into the workplace. The aim was simple: to make it easier for employees to take a moment for their health during the workday, without the need for appointments or time away from work.

More Than a Check-Up

The Wellness Days offered employees the opportunity to participate in a variety of health screenings and conversations around well-being. Employees were also able to engage directly with their benefit partners, ask questions, and gain a better understanding of their available aids. A blood donation drive, hosted in partnership with the South African National Blood Service, also formed part of the initiative. Many employees chose to participate, knowing that a small act can make a meaningful difference to someone else’s life. The atmosphere across all three locations was relaxed, open, and supportive. It created space for conversations about health that often get postponed in busy daily routines. The events served as a reminder that taking care of ourselves is something worth prioritising.

Where The Initiative Began

Behind the initiative were Andrea du Toit, KLINGER South Africa’s National Manager for HR, Marketing and Communication, Digitalization, and Nqobile Maseko, HR Coordinator, who worked closely together to bring the Wellness Days to life. Andrea explains the motivation behind the initiative: “Our colleagues spend a significant portion of their lives at work. Creating opportunities to support their overall well-being is something we believe is important – both for the individual and for the organisation.”

From the outset, the intention was not simply to host a once-off event, but to begin building a broader culture that supports employee well-being.

Looking at Wellness Holistically

The long-term vision for wellness at KLINGER South Africa is based on the eight dimensions of wellness, which include physical, emotional, social, intellectual, spiritual, occupational, financial, and environmental well-being. The recent Wellness Days represent an important first step in this journey. Future initiatives will aim to explore these different dimensions further, creating opportunities for employees to engage with wellness in a balanced and meaningful way. At the heart of the initiative is a simple belief: people are the foundation of any successful organisation. When employees feel supported in their health and overall well-being, they are better able to thrive both personally and professionally.

The Wellness Days were therefore more than just an event. They reflected KLINGER South Africa’s commitment to its people and a reminder that sometimes the most meaningful actions begin with something small – taking a moment to look after our health.
